Service Area Descriptions

Gift Shop

Northside Gift Shop volunteers are friendly, dependable, and happy to help shoppers.

 

Duties include helping customers find what they need, handling purchases, tidying up, restocking shelves, and sometimes delivering orders or answering the phone.

 

Additionally, special project assistants help with by making gift baskets and conducting inventory analysis. We’re looking for energetic people who enjoy making others smile!

Information Desk – Women’s Center

We’re looking for friendly volunteers who enjoy connecting with patients and families.

 

You’ll help guests at Northside Hospital find their way, escort people in the Women’s Center, and make sure visitors have badges.

 

No computer skills are needed, and you’ll even assist patients in active labor to reach Labor and Delivery.

Courtesy Shuttle

Must be 21 and have a valid Georgia Driver’s License.


Mandatory orientation and ongoing training are required. Candidates must demonstrate professionalism, strong interpersonal skills, confidentiality, and knowledge of the hospital area.


Responsibilities include retrieving and returning the shuttle, following all road rules, and safely assisting and transporting patients and visitors between their vehicles and hospital entrances.

Infusion Center

As a volunteer, you'll help outpatients feel comfortable by offering refreshments and support during their visits.

 

You'll assist staff with light tasks like stocking supplies, handling lab work, and preparing treatment areas. Volunteers must be healthy, able to communicate well with patients, and provide their own transportation.

 

This role often works alone and is well-suited for self starters. If you enjoy helping others and want to make a difference, this role is a great opportunity!

Treat Trolley

Volunteers deliver fruit and treats to nursing units. You'll fill the cart, share snacks and a smile with hospital staff, and bring back any extras.

 

If you love chatting with others, can walk and push a cart for a couple of hours, and don’t mind checking in about supplies, we’d love your help.

 

Friendly, caring people who enjoy brightening someone’s day are perfect for this role!

Auxiliary Office Reception

As a support for the manager and team, this role welcomes volunteers and visitors, answers calls, manages messages, and helps with files, supplies, and projects.

 

You'll assist hospital staff with patient or visitor transport requests, record dispatches, and validate parking passes. Most duties involve sitting at the desk, staying positive, and respecting confidentiality.

 

Friendly communication and familiarity with procedures is important, but this is a great way to learn the hospital.

Special Care Nursery Support

Our Special Care Nursery Support volunteers pack bags full of donations for babies in the Special Care Nursery.

 

The bags are labelled and hand-delivered to families, greeting parents with a smile, and explaining what’s inside each bag.

 

We keep track of inventory for reordering supplies. We welcome independent, organized, and cheerful communicators who enjoy making deliveries and connecting with parents and hospital staff!

Descriptions of Each Service Area

  • Patient Ambassador volunteers brighten patients’ days with warm visits, friendly smiles, and helpful information about the hospital.

     

    They make sure every patient feels comfortable, receives a thoughtful care package, oriented to their room, amenities, and surroundings.

     

    By sharing positive conversation and genuine support, Ambassadors help make the hospital feel welcoming and caring.

  • At Northside, pet therapy brings special joy to patients in high-risk perinatal and medical-surgery units.

     

    Friendly volunteers check if patients are eligible and arrange cheerful visits from Pet Therapy dogs.

     

    The Pet Therapy dogs spend happy, quality time with the eligible patients. They also make sure hospital rules are followed and track each month's pet visits.

  • Volunteers lend a caring hand to medical staff by assisting with baby exams—diapering, feeding, soothing little ones before they're reunited with their mothers, and keeping supplies stocked.

     

    The shifts are 4 hours from Monday – Friday 8 AM to 12 PM. If you enjoy being on your feet and supporting newborns and families, this is a rewarding way to help!

  • Information volunteers greet guests, help them navigate the Atlanta campus—including off-site properties—and sometimes escort or assist with wheelchairs.

     

    Friendliness is key, and volunteers may need to solve guest questions. Computer skills are needed.

  • If you’ve recently finished cancer treatment and want to give back, Network of Hope offers three ways to get involved!

     

    Join Community Outreach to share your story or help at events, pitch in with Special Events for set-up and support, or help behind the scenes with admin tasks that assist survivors and caregivers.

  • As a volunteer, you'll help discharge patients and visitors by pushing wheelchairs while being friendly and professional, and keeping HIPAA guidelines in mind.

     

    You may also transport new admissions or assist to different areas on campus. After each use, wheelchairs are sanitized for safety.

     

    By working at least one 4-hour shift each week, you'll quickly get to know the hospital layout, making it easier to offer directions to those who need them.

     

    Transport is a great way to meet new friends while learning the
    hospital.

  • This role helps connect surgical staff with families, offering caring non-medical support.

     

    Working alone, you'll greet visitors with a smile, help them find their way around, assist families as needed, run simple errands, and keep the waiting area comfortable.

     

    Strong communication skills, a friendly attitude, professionalism, and respect for privacy are important.

  • Our Healing Sounds volunteers fill our hospital lobbies with gentle music, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for everyone who passes through.

     

    Whether playing an instrument or sharing their voice, these talented musicians offer moments of calm that help ease stress and lift spirits.

     

    Their soothing presence brings comfort, connection, and a sense of peace to patients, families, and staff alike.

    Professional background in music preferred.

  • In the Pain Treatment Clinic, volunteers provide a welcoming presence that helps patients feel more at ease.

     

    They assist staff by guiding patients, offering comfort, and helping with simple tasks that keep the clinic running smoothly.

     

    Through their steady support and compassion, volunteers enhance the overall experience for both patients and the care team.
